The scurge of gardeners everywhere, aphids latch their pincers into your prize roses, suck out the juicy sap inside and then   proceed to make general nuisances of themselves by reproducing all over the show. Ants have got the right idea - exploiting the little sods for the honeydew they produce through all that sucking. At least some creature's getting enjoyment from them. DP
