Bumblebee bats (also known as Kitti's hog-nosed bat) compete with the Etruscan pygmy shrew for the title of world's smallest mammal. They're about the size of a bumblebee, weigh about as much as a dime, and have the ability to hover   like hummingbirds. They live only in the Karichanaburi Province of Thailand, and only in small limestone caves with domed or conical ceilings near bamboo thickets and teak plantations. Deforestation in their home range has shrunk their numbers to about 200 individuals, which places them on the list of the world's twelve most endangered animals. EK
