Sprinkled liberally at weddings, graduations, parades and confetti maker conventions, these small pieces of (normally) coloured paper are the bane of every street-sweeper's existence.   Contrary to popular belief, the custom of throwing confetti didn't begin with the invention of the holepunch, but rather became vogue during Pagan weddings and signified a "fruitful" union between the happy couple. Of course, back then they threw grain, as folk are often wont to do today. Opinion is mixed however on whether or not this kills pigeons. DP
