Oddly enough, you'll find the three smallest bones in the human body stuck right down inside your lugs. Scientifically, they're collectively referred to as the ossicles, with the three individual bones being the malleus (hammer), the incus   (anvil) and the stapes (stirrups). All three of the wee blighters interconnect and serve to pass sound waves from the eardrum through to the cochlea, amplifying them so they can be successfully transmitted through fluid rather than air, the subsequently generated nerve impulses being then passed through to the brain.
