All three of the wee blighters interconnect and serve to pass sound waves from the eardrum through to the cochlea, amplifying them so they can be successfully transmitted through fluid rather than air, the subsequently generated nerve impulses being then passed through to the brain. Ergo, you hear. Quite genius really.
