Those small hairy brushes which frame your eyes do a lot more than just giving you something to bat at passing attractive strangers - they also keep dust, grime and   grit out of the sensitive blinkers beneath them. But as so often happens in this world, the former attribute is much more lauded than the latter - just witness the global mascara and false eyelash industry and you'll see what I mean ... unless of course, you've got a little something in your eye.
