Like their much detested cousins papercuts, pinpricks also hurt disproportionately to the amount of skin-rending they actually do, the initial sharp pain giving way to a   dull annoying one a few moments later. They do have their uses though ... immunisation for one, and let's not forget that bastion of home science experimentation, the pinhole camera. It's safe to say that those such as Lady Macbeth would lean on the side of nuisance though ... damn spot indeed. DP
