just a small prick

The modern safety pin as we know it was inveted in 1849 by one Walter Hunt in New York. Previous to that, bronze and gold pins have been found throughout just
about every age of history that has worn clothes.

These days, they're mainly reserved for medical uses (securing bandages and so on) but they're always useful for holding together a ripped garment on a temporary basis. It's just a shame you can never find one when you need one!
