oranges for giants

Like a little orange for people with too large hands, your average satsuma (or "mandarin" on the southern side of the planet) falls into one of two categories: "easily peelable and dry as the Sahara",
or "a bugger to peel but with enough juice and pips to put your average watermelon to shame". They seem to arrive in plentiful supply at Christmas too; one possible explanation being Santa's copious shares in the Satsuma Marketing Board. That's the only logical reason for why you always end up with one at the bottom of your Christmas stocking.
