Somehow, a tiny exhalation of breath followed by a small plaintive moan somehow manages to perfectly encapsulate those minor feelings of dispair, frustration   or even contentment which tend to occur from time to time. Sighs also gave their name to the small bridge leading to the old prison from the Doge's Palace in Venice ... if you were to spend the remainder of your days in that tiny, lightless hole you'd be doing a whole lot of sighing too.
