Sarah and I did our monthly movie mission last night: this time to American Beauty (yes, I know, we're far behind the civilised world in the quick release department). I really enjoyed it, but it put me in a melancholy mood for the rest of the evening: quite a challenging film (there was a lot of nervous laughter in the audience). It reminded me somewhat of Blue Velvet, ie. lots of symbolism, the seemy side of life in the suburbs, etc.
