The world's first transsexual Member of Parliament (formerly the world's first transsexual mayor) gave her maiden speech in the House yesterday. Another first for little ole Noo Zeeeland! Best line:

I do have to say that I've now come full circle and become a member."Today is the big day - time to cash in my savings and buy two thousand British pounds (one more hurdle crossed on the way to getting myself half way around the world ... my passport finally arrived yesterday too so it's all happening around here, I tell ya).
Must remember to rent a copy of Scarfies before I go ... the best NZ film in a long time (plus I'm missing the old neighbourhood already!).
