An excellent article on the story of Pope Joan: what's most interesting is the way the tale has mutated over various incarnations of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

On the corner of Cannon Street and Walbrook (intersection in the top left corner of this pic) is a statue of a man talking into a cell/mobile phone - I've yet to read the inscription but it's kind of a bizarre concept. Was the first ever call on a mobile made here? Or is it a monument to global telecommunications dominance? Stay tuned for details.
