The media reaction to the passing of the Human Rights Act is fairly strange - there's only been about a thousand stories along the lines of "Human Rights Act may spell end to brushing teeth" and such. New Zealand passed it's own version in 1993, so us budding law students had the chance to study it a reasonable amount during our degrees. The impact? Not that great. Even successive governments couldn't get their A's into G to implement Consistency 2000, a programme designed to bring all existing legislation into line with the new act. I can therefore confidently assure the British media that they have absolutely nothing to worry about ... you may now return to your tales of Posh and Becks.
