I must confess to being a bad NZ film watcher ... last night was the first time I'd seen Peter Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures". The verdict? A bewitching little piece of film-making: Melanie Lynskey as Pauline did a great line in scowling and Kate Winslet made a good debut (although it was a bit of a hamfest). Christchurch looked suitably bucolic (as it should for the 1950s), and it was nice to see some of Jackson's splattergore past appearing throughout. It's all the more shocking for being true (reports of the era; lesbian elements).
