RIP, PM
New Zealand lost one of its most admired sons over the weekend, with the passing of former Prime Minister David Lange. To say he was an imitable presence is an understatement: he absolutely (re)defined New Zealand politics in the 1980s and will be sorely missed by the vast majority of us. There's plenty of coverage on the wires (a good range of views at The Herald and Stuff) and Russell Brown sums the man up nicely. Public Address' Great New Zealand Argument section also carries the text of his famous turn in the 1985 Oxford Union debate, arguing that "nuclear weapons are morally indefensible" ... the big man at his finest.
