The lion's den
One of the nice things about spending holidays with the family is that you end up back at the old childhood haunts. My Uncle John (Mum's brother) and Aunty Margaret live in North Otago on the same farm they've had since we were kids. The old swimming pool's still there, as is the potting shed, and the treehut too ( now a little the worse for wear). It's a great place to unwind and relax and go all bucolic for a while.

Another favourite spot on the farm was 'the gully' - a small valley only a couple of minutes walk from the farm house. We used to have great fun poking around its limestone nooks and crannies, clambering over the rocks and looking for fossils and all that Boy's Own Annual stuff. So it wasn't hard to understand why Hollywood came knocking in 2004 - what better place to set Aslan's Camp in The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe?

Our little escape is not a secret anymore, but I'm still glad thousands of people have had a chance to take a peek at it. Here are some snaps I took last visit.
